5 things you need to know about your handmade hat!
- I just did chores on the farm and my flannel and corduroy hat is filthy!
Can I wash my hat?
Yes! Throw it in the washer on a cold, gentle cycle. The fabric that your hat is made with whether it’s flannel, corduroy, fleece or sweater fleece (not wool) is thrown in my washer before it even goes in the scissors. Your wool hat and the cute hats with poms are not washable, but all the other ones are!
- I want my handmade corduroy hat to smell fresh and new before heading to the cabin this weekend.
Can I dry my hat?
My recommendation for drying your corduroy hat would be to let it air dry. Throw it over a lamp shade, line dry it on your clothes line or just simply lay it flat with a happy flat brim – not a bent brim. I also dry all the fabric in the dryer prior to making your hat, but to be safe let’s have you air dry it.
- My kids’ fleece hats are in need of some freshening up for heading back to school on Monday.
Can I wash and dry it?
You bet! Because I know your life is busy with laundry, suppers to make and lunches to pack, not to mention your kids are maybe filthy and sweaty (love it) go ahead and throw their fleece hats right in the wash and dryer on warm while you throw supper together for the fam. The super durable hook and loop closure will hold up fine. Don’t recommend hot – just luke warm. While you’re at it throw your two-tone fleece hat in there with it – it should be just fine.
- I want my newsboy hat or patchwork cloche hat to look crisp and brand new again.
Can I iron my hat?
This is totally up to you! For my own hats after washing and air drying I take my hat and use a low heat iron and swipe the brim to make it happy and to stiffen things up a bit. Please avoid getting any hot iron on your Bound to be Creative label as it will potentially stick to your iron. To iron your brim on your hat do this: grab the back of the hat and hold it up so the brim is just touching the ironing board, then take your iron and swipe the inside of the brim. It doesn’t matter which way your hat is turned out. Repeat to other side if desired. (Do not iron your fleece hat – just had to mention – but you’re super smart and probably knew this.)
- I’m going on vacation and I want to bring my new hat my mom bought for me.
