A quick little OOTD (outfit of the day). I wore a fun outfit a couple of weeks ago when taking some kiddos to the ortho (see photo below). I wanted to have some “express yourself fun” as I had been a nurse-mom to a daughter who had a tonsillectomy (two weeks home in bed, ugh!). As my daughter was just waking up, her eyes just about popped outta her head when she saw I was actually wearing “the tights”. She was probably thankful to be staying on the couch and not venturing out with said tights and her mom at the same time. I love the mom-perks – “shock and awe”.
How I pulled it together
I started with those funky, striped tights (insert spunky mood) and worked from there and seriously, what’s not to love about them tights? The knit boot cuffs were from a local merchant from a craft show that I bought like forever ago. I wear them a lot for cute factor and warmth. A pink under shirt and a charcoal grey chunky sweater became a no jacket needed day. The scarf is a winter staple that hosts multiple hues that complimented my outfit. Topping it off with the must-have Reversible Oversized Slouchy Newsboy Hat was the perfect crowning moment before I ventured out the door. Not only did I have a VERY stubborn hair day but I also wanted to complete the outfit and stay warm – it was a whopping 10 degress outside. The greatest part is that right before I left the house I reversed the hat and wore it on the printed side as too-much maroon was interfering with my jazz. Here’s the other side:
What?! No funky tights?
Okay, so you don’t have a pair of those crazy tights or a chunky sweater? No problem! Straight from your closet it’s all about a smidgen of confidence. Let me explain. Let’s take this handmade slouchy hat for instance, it actually consists of purple, orange and a little bit of a muted violet. The houndstooth print is pretty small so the colors aren’t screaming at us. This outfit works because all the hues are complimenting each other instead of “matching” each other – big difference (remind me to blog about that sometime soon). Sure, a purple sweater (a color in the hat) may look great under a tan jacket, but maybe too loud and contrast-y. Stepping out of our box to blend our clothes creates a cohesive all over look. Throwing the scarf in the mix for warmth also hosts a lot of the same hues in this palette. Find something in your closet that you love and blend those colors baby!! This is how it can look with a bit of confidence!
So, next time you venture out and have a great outfit on – let me see it!!!…for real – I’d love to see what you’re wearing!
