When it comes to outdoors, I’m a stickler at making the most of every season right down to accessorizing and bringing the outdoors in (…more on those winter-interest cuttings later). As my family knows, I have plenty of coats, scarves, mittens and of course, hats. So how do I no-brainer accessorize when heading out the door in a Minnesota winter with negative wind chills? Glad you asked! Here’s a quick peek from last week out in the yard, of course with our dog, Maple.
Boots
I feel pretty good when my daughters actually want to wear something of mine – especially boots. But this winter, I got some boots for myself that are for my warmth and fashion enjoyment only. Boots can be cute, practical and warm – and honestly, I don’t like to wear tennis shoes in winter.
Jacket
Coats, jackets and vests oh my!! I admit this area is a total weakness for me…not an expensive one, but a “must-have” weakness. I love the coral color of this winter ski-jacket so much as it speaks to my colorful personality. Why did I choose a coral color coat – doesn’t seem practical, right? I agree, but it’s my personal preference that makes me happy from the inside out! And truth be told -it pairs nicely with a nuetral and practical cute hat.
Hat
Speaking of hats…here’s where I find the “practical” in winter accessorizing. For me, nothing screams more practical, cost-effective, and a perfect winter accessory than wool. 100% wool is warm, warm and warm. A grey herringbone print (much like your grandpa’s Sunday driving hat and the one I’m wearing) puts Trendy-Wendy to shame. Pairing wool and a grey herringbone together equals a timeless treasure….It’s like hot cocoa paired with marshmellows equals a perfect ending to a good ski day! Wool is a beautiful choice that shows up on your hat rack each winter. I like to wear wool hats for its warmth and timeless appeal. So that coral coat I’m wearing?….well, fun winter coat + a timeless wool hat = timeless winter wardrobe formula!
Bringing the Outdoors In
From the fresh smells of Spring to the wind chills of Winter – I love all the seasons, really. Continuing to stay soul-fit this year I want to bring every season indoors with fresh(ish) interest from my yard gardens. This January it’s cut Forsythia twigs (that will spring their yellow leaves about late January), American Crandberry twigs ‘n’ berries and finally red-twigged dogwoods. I’m also patiently waiting for the daffodil bulbs to bloom! Stay tuned for Winter Creativity in the next Blog!
